The Acer TravelMate C100 laptop computer was one of the earliest Windows Tablet PCs being produced. Such devices were equipped with a touch-screen and a stylus, and could be used both as a standard pc \u2013 using touchpad and keyboard as input devices \u2013 and as a paper notebook directly interacting with the screen with the stylus or with fingers.
With respect to contemporary PDAs, Tablet PCs provided the typical versatility of a traditional PC system, being capable of running desktop operating systems and applications, rather than ad-hoc software.\nDespite such a versatility, Tablet PCs never become very popular, mainly due to the high cost and the awkward interaction with the stylus, which was practical only for handwriting and graphics.\nThe design of the TravelMate C100 is quite traditional and recalls the latest notebook models from Acer. The front profile of the notebook contains in the centre of it an IrDA port, an integrated microphone for the audio and a voice notes. The IrDA port and the microphone are framed by a silver tag which has \"TravelMate\" logo marked on.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Il Travelmate C100 monta un display 12 pollici con risoluzione nativa di 1024\u00d7768. Il display \u00e8 dotato di una particolare cerniera snodata che gli permette di ruotare di 180\u00b0 attorno all\u2019asse verticale e di aprirsi a ribalta di 180\u00b0. Ai lati del display, in basso, sono presenti due blocchi per evitare la rotazione accidentale. Premendo i blocchi si libera il dispositivo di serraggio e si permette al display di ruotare per preparare la configurazione Tablet PC.
Lo stilo per l\u2019utilizzo del notebook in configurazione Tablet PC \u00e8 posto orizzontalmente, nella parte destra dello spigolo superiore.
La tastiera del Travelmate C100 \u00e8 di ridotte dimensioni, scelta obbligata per un sistema con questa particolare struttura. I tasti sono caratterizzati da un\u2019area minore rispetto a quelli di un notebook di dimensioni tradizionali.
The TravelMate C100 comes with Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, a version of Microsoft\u2019s\noperating system designed specifically for this type of device. In fact, this version includes support for the stylus as a pointing device, and both handwriting and voice commands recognition. These features, starting with Windows Vista, will then be integrated into all subsequent versions of\nWindows.
To input the CTRL-ALT-DEL key combination \u2013 necessary to log in to networked PCs \u2013 without\nhaving to use the keyboard, there is a button on the display frame of the TravelMate C100 that\nemulates this key combination.
Il lato destro del notebook ospita due slot per smartcard e per una card PCMCIA di tipo II. Accanto ad essi si trovano il connettore minijack stereo di line-out, per cuffie o casse esterne, e il minijack stereo di line-in, che permette il collegamento di un microfono. Alla destra dei connettori \u00e8 situato un piccolo sportello di gomma che nasconde alla vista le porte di comunicazione. A pannello aperto sono infatti visibili una porta IEEE 1394 FireWire e due porte USB. Sopra di esse sono collocate alcune piccole aperture che permettono la rimozione della tastiera. Pi\u00f9 a destra \u00e8 situata una piccola griglia di areazione accanto al pulsante destro del sistema di bloccaggio del monitor.
Sul lato sinistro del notebook si trovano il secondo pulsante del sistema di bloccaggio del monitor e il pulsante d\u2019accensione a scorrimento. Di seguito \u00e8 collocato il vano per la memoria di massa e, al di sopra di esso, trova posto un\u2019altra serie di fessure che consentono la rimozione della tastiera. Il profilo posteriore del notebook ospita, nella zona centrale, un inserto in gomma, ai lati del quale sono stati collocati, a sinistra il sistema di sicurezza kensignton lock, a destra il connettore per l\u2019alimentazione da rete elettrica. Sullo spigolo inferiore destro sono presenti sei tasti funzione e di accesso rapido.
