The Globalstar GSP-1700 is a satellite phone designed to ensure reliable communication in areas without traditional cellular coverage. This device allows voice calls, SMS messaging, and dial-up data connectivity, making it ideal for those who need to stay connected in remote environments.

Globalstar operates through a constellation of 24 low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, which act as analog "bent pipe" repeaters, providing nearly global coverage (80% of the Earth's surface). These satellites relay user signals to ground stations (gateways), which then route communications to the public telephone network or the Internet.
Since there is no inter-satellite connectivity, each satellite must have a ground station within its coverage area to provide service to users. Currently, there are 24 Globalstar gateways worldwide, with seven located in North America.
