LUIGI DADDA

Italian Academic and Computer Science (Lodi 1923 - Milano 2012). Graduated in Electronic Engineering, he was one of the first Italian academics to recognize the possibilities offered by computer science. Thanks to him and other "enlightened" scholars, in 1954 the Politecnico di Milano had a digital electronic calculator, the first in the country; Dadda worked on its realization and for years he supervised its implementation and improvement. Professor since 1960, in 1961 he co-founded the Italian Association for Computer Science and Automatic Calculation (of which he was president from 1968 to 1970) and in 1972 he was appointed rector of the Politecnico di Milano (1972-84). D. chaired the Commission on Science and Technology at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (1980-82) and was president of the Advanced Learning and Research Institute (Lugano).
